Abstract
Nuclear Power in Sweden, Market Outlook to 2020, 2011 Update - Capacity, Generation, Regulations, Power Plants, Companies
Summary
Sweden had a total installed capacity of 37,535 MW and nuclear installed capacity is about 9,303 MW in 2010. The country is currently operating 10 nuclear power reactors. The uprate program is gaining a momentum in the country’s nuclear industry. The uprate and modernization programs aid in plant life extensions, ensuring security of supply. The government has plans to compensate the capacity shortage due to the shut down of Barseback 1 and 2 units. The modernization program comprises exchange and replacements of equipments such as steam generators and high pressure turbines and low pressure turbines. Initially in 1980 the Sweden government strongly wanted to bring in to force the nuclear phase out program, but the current situation of meeting the energy needs with a serious concern to reduce the greenhouse gases emission is forcing the country to reconsider its stance regarding nuclear phase out program. In 2010, the Parliament voted to reconsider this nuclear phase out policy.
