Abstract

Nuclear Power in Spain, Market Outlook to 2020, 2011 Update - Capacity, Generation, Regulations, Power Plants, Companies

Summary

Spain has eight operable nuclear reactors and the nuclear generation contribution is about 22.2% of the electricity generation. Two nuclear power plants have been under decommissioning. Endesa S.A. and Iberdrola, S.A. are the key players in the Spanish nuclear energy industry. The operational nuclear reactors are Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) and Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) type. Spain has few energy sources of its own. Among them coal and hydro are the major energy sources. Nuclear energy plays an important role in the Spanish electricity generation mix.
