Abstract
Executive Summary
This report describes current global research initiatives in the field of
allergies. It focuses on the most common allergies, which affect more than 300
million persons worldwide: seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and food
allergies.
Sales estimates from 2008 to 2013 are provided for the leading prescription
allergy drugs and vaccines, as well as over-the-counter (OTC) allergy
medicines in the U.S., European Union, Japan and rest of world area (defined
as South America and the Caribbean, Middle East, Africa, and Asia except
Japan). Forecasts include an analysis of the market forces affecting sales in
each region, as well as a discussion of patent expirations of leading
medications and the effects of generic competition on existing allergy drug
sales.
Allergy medications and vaccines under development are discussed, with a
comprehensive analysis of technology, stage of development and
commercialization potential. This includes new molecular entities and
indication expansions of medicines currently approved for other uses. For
leading allergy drug candidates, sales estimates from 2009 to 2013 are
provided.
Profiles of the 12 leading allergy drug developers offer details of these
companies' capabilities, particularly focusing on R&D strength, pipeline
products, strategic alliances and partnerships, and the effects of any recent
merger or acquisition activity. A directory of more than five dozen leading
players worldwide allows readers to access companies' own web sites for
further review.
Information for this report was gathered from a wide variety of published
sources; interviews with company representatives were then conducted to assess
trends, and form the basis of the forecasting and competitive analysis.
This report is designed for business development and other senior executives,
marketers, R&D managers, investors, VCs, consultants, entrepreneurs and others
who require an in-depth understanding of the current status of the allergy
therapeutics market and potential new products. More than 50 detailed tables
or figures provide key data about items such as strategic alliances, M&As,
market size, segments and the like.
