Addressing the Changing Nature of Power and Water Services in Sub-Saharan Africa

Africa is home to 15% of the world's population. The electrification and water accessibility rates in the continent are not very promising. The region's peak demand is about 74,000 MW but the current generation capacity is just 50% of it. Water scarcity and drought are taking a toll on both the power and water supply market. The problem is being made worse due to the rapidly increasing urban population. However, due to the same fact, Africa is emerging to be an excellent market for equipment suppliers and service providers in certain countries that considered to have great potential for doing business. The study provides economic analysis, changing business models, and performance analysis of power and water utilities of some of the hotspot countries in Africa. It offers an insight into the current financial and infrastructural trends of the countries' power and water utilities. It also discusses future developments that are expected in these countries and provides the market drivers and restraints in achieving the future targets.
