Abstract

This IDC Financial Insights report of 13 U.S. retail mobile banking solution providers once again provides some interesting insight into the current mobile banking landscape. Some of the more interesting trends that have emerged are the growth of downloadable applications and the decrease in the perceived threat of the mobile providers.

"It appears that the teams have been picked, and that financial institutions for now are in the driver' s seat when it comes to the future for mobile banking. Carriers are content selling data plans as opposed to generating revenue from banking transactions," says Marc DeCastro, research manager, Consumer Banking, IDC Financial Insights. "What is more pressing is that many financial institutions continue to view mobile as a defensive strategy or they are pairing it with online banking and bill pay. While defense can certainly be a strategy, it can quickly become a liability if the channel is not properly marketed and maintained."
