This IDC Energy Insights Perspective discusses Schneider Electric's Le Hive facility, which is a test bed for advanced sensor, measurement, analysis, and control technologies. The main tools of traditional energy efficiency are caulking guns and window wraps. Now information technology and communications are taking the lead in reducing buildings' energy intensity, starting with the building automation system but also including lighting management, HVAC efficiency, and other building systems.
