Abstract
This IDC Energy Insights report provides in-depth analysis of Enel' s
deployment of its Mobile Work Force management solution. Enel, Italy' s
largest power company, and Europe' s second-listed utility by installed capacity,
implemented a new mobile workforce management solution to improve its
field operations. The project, completed in 2008, aimed to revamp
operations of approximately 8,500 field engineers, leveraging mobile technology and
process automation. As a result, around 5,300 vehicles were transformed
into "mobile offices" equipped with rugged notebooks.
"These numbers, together with
Enel' s success in creatively integrating existing company applications such as
its proprietary technical GIS information with commercially available navigation tools
and maps, makes this project a very interesting reference for
other distribution companies," said Roberta Bigliani, research director for IDC
Energy Insights EMEA.
