Abstract

This is the ElectroniCast forecast of global market consumption of light emitting diodes (LEDs) used in selected signs/signage and professional displays.

NEW Additions to the 2010 Study

Items have been added to this study versus the 2009 study report, most notably is that this forecast includes market data in regards to LEDs used for channel-lettering signs, back-lit display signage and back-lighting for video display screens that are sold and used specifically professional displays. Another important addition to note is that this forecast provides data, segmented by the following functions:

  • Consumption Value (US$, million)
  • Quantity (number/units)
  • Average Selling Prices (ASP $, each)

This 2009-2015 market review and forecast is presented for Standard-type versus High Brightness- (HB) type LEDs. High Brightness (HB) LEDs, defined by ElectroniCast, are component-level bulbs with a Lumens/Watt rating of 30lm/W and above (>30lm/W); Standard-type LEDs have a Lumen/Watt rating of less than 30lm/W (<30lm/W). The forecast for each type, in turn, is segmented into geographical region. The market data are segmented into the following geographic regions, plus a Global summary:

  • America (North America, Central and South America)
  • EMEA (Europe, Middle Eastern countries, plus Africa)
  • APAC (Asia Pacific)

The 2009 worldwide consumption of light emitting diodes used (consumed) in signage and professional displays reached $1.3 billion. In terms of value, the consumption of HB-LEDs in signals and professional display devices will maintain the majority of the relative market share (2009-2015).

Standard-LED types have a lumen efficiency of less than 30 lumen/Watt. The number of Standard LEDs will moderately increase. On the other-hand, the average selling price (ASP) for the Standard-LEDs are forecasted to decrease at a hefty pace (2009-2015); therefore values are almost entirely offset by declining prices.
