目錄

Abstract

The global wind turbine industry is expected to see its first drop in year-on-year installations in 2011, after installing a record 39.2 GW in 2010. This change in market conditions has left 0EMs in a challenging environment, struggling to respond to complex demand patterns that have been shifting since the onset of the global financial crisis in 2008. Intensifying competition in the near- term along with capacity oversupply will mean maintaining market power in buyers' hands.

0EMs are attempting to position themselves according to where longer-term market recovery is expected, aligning their production capacities with the new realities of demand. To overcome current market conditions, 0EMs must increase their value offering through improved production strategies and new product rollouts, while keeping costs low.

Which 0EMS have the ability to be successful in a buyer' s market? What are the strategies allowing for this success? How will the market shake out anti who is positional to tap recovering growth?

IHS EER' s new market study, Global Wind Turbine Markets and Strategies: 2011-2025, provides the most current analysis available of global wind turbine markets, including the strategies of leading and emerging turbine manufacturers, the competitive positioning of these players in the global market, and the challenges they face going forward.

Key trends highlighted in IHS EER' s new study include:

  • Future growth opportunities in Asia, European offshore and emerging markets: Turbine capacity investments in US and European onshore have eased during an ongoing period of uncertainty. at the same time, expansion plans in Brazil, India, China and offshore in Europe are rushing ahead. as a result, 0EMs are faced with difficult strategic decisions, weighing the options of entering unchartered territories against entering highly contested, growing markets.
  • OEMs adapt production strategies to shifting demand: 0ver exposure in mature markets experiencing demand slumps coupled with critical mass in emerging markets justifying local production are reshuffling 0EM strategies. 0EMs are rationalizing their global production capacity to match the industry' s structural shifts, facing adjusted projected demands.
  • New product rollouts key to differentiation: 0EMs are scaling their products toward 3 MW and larger while dev eloping new products for medium- and low-wind speed sites in Europe, India, and increasingly the US. In addition, a wave of offshore specific models will hit the market from 2014. Efficiency and reliability will be among key factors for 0EMs to gain competitive advantages as market share competition heats up.

Press Release
