Photoresist is used primarily in the electronics industry, and especially
demand from semiconductor and LCD industry, where exposure process is main
production process, is large. In semiconductor manufacturing process, the
importance of exposure process is large and proportion of the cost production
is very high. It varies depending on the type of semiconductor, but in the
case of memory semiconductor process, production cost accounts for 30% and
production time accounts for 60% of production process.
Due to increasingly refined process, photoresist has been developed as the
core material in the semiconductor industry. Most of photoresist developers
are organic photosensitive material leaders that have been involved from the
beginning, such as JSR, TOK, Dow Chemical (former Rohm & Haas), Shinetsu,
Sumimoto Chemical, AZEM, etc Since world' s leading manufacturers in both LCD
and semiconductor are located in Korea, all of major photoresist companies
have presence in Korea. Supplying to Samsung Electronics, that has the most
advanced process in the semiconductor industry, works as a warranty in the
market, so most of major companies devote great effort to supply to Samsung
Electronics. Compare to photoresist in semiconductor process, LCD industry
uses lower grade products, but has formed a very large market in terms of
quantity. This report deals with photoresist, important materials in the
electronics industry in Korea, by each industry' s demand, supply, and
competition status.
