LED Backlight Unit (BLU) that showed rapid penetration rate in NotePCs and TVs
is expected to show sharper penetration in the monitor market from 2011. For
Monitors, employing LED BLU was delayed because monitor market is much more
sensitive to price than other products. However due to increased performance
and down pricing of the major components, LED BLU penetration is growing.
Especially due to low power consumption, competitive price, and emphasized
slim design that come from expanding the application of edge-type LED BLU, it
is expected to receive positive responses from consumers.
Yet the price difference between CCFL model and LED BLU-adapted monitor is
20%, as LED BLU-adapted model increases, the price difference is expected to
decrease.
Displaybank has conducted analysis on two products from BenQ. Even though
these are global brand products, their prices are 10% cheaper than the market
average price and have 10% price premium than CCFL method same-level products,
so they are regarded as a model that can absorb demand from both sides. They
are low-cost LED monitor, but the product Spec. does not fall behind when you
compare with competing models in its class. BenQ was able to so by only
loading necessary features through various lineup and structures of products
and supply chain optimization.
