This report looks at what DFC Intelligence defines as the core PC gamer consumer in Western markets such as North America, Europe and much of Latin America.
The focus of this report is on PC gamers that play sophisticated games that often require high-end PC hardware. The core PC game consumer is expected to be a major driver of not only game software but also high-end PC hardware and accessories. The Western Core PC Gamer focuses on gamers outside of Asia in North America, Europe and Latin America. There are an estimated 86 million consumers in this category and it is expected to grow significantly as younger consumers become adults and have more spending power.
This report has a detailed analysis of consumer demographics and game patterns based on four years of tracking game usage on a product level. Also included are results of a survey of over 14,000 core PC gamers. Analysis of how this segment is defined and its expected impact is a major portion of this report. Actual spending patterns show the relationship between games that charge an upfront fee and how it compares with games that charge a subscription or games that are free to download and then charge for additional content (often referred to as free-to-play or freemium).
