Abstract

High performance analog includes any analog product, such as data converters, amplifiers, interface, etc. that are high speed, precision, or based on any specification where performance is valued above price.

High performance analog, the focus of this report, includes numerous cutting edge analog products which can range from high speed or precision amplifiers to high resolution and high speed data converters, including DACs and ADCs. Also included are high speed interface, comparators, and transceivers, and also high efficiency power management and voltage regulators (featuring over 95 percent conversion efficiency). Representing the latest in analog advancements, growth in these products is helping to fuel innovative, high-growth devices in many of today's fastest-growing markets such as digital wireless, broadband access, digital audio, high-resolution imaging, and medical electronics.

Although this market also includes high performance ASSPs, the majority of high performance analog product sales are considered general purpose or “multi-market”. As a whole, the high performance analog segment is growing faster than the analog market as a whole with a CAGR of 10 percent projected until 2016. This is primarily driven by power and battery management, as OEMs currently use increased battery life and brighter displays to differentiate their end-products. Other product markets that contribute to the high growth rate include high speed data converters and interface.
