Abstract

Safety systems can be grouped into two specific categories: passive and active. Passive safety systems help protect occupants in the event of an accident and include airbags, seatbelts, head restraints, collapsible steering columns, and vehicle crumple zones. Meanwhile, active safety systems have features that help drivers avoid an accident and include suspension, anti-lock brakes, steering controls, electronic stability control, lighting, and tire pressure monitoring.

Safety systems are considered a fast-growing consumer of automotive semiconductors, as both consumers and regulators have been demanding additional safety equipment in vehicles. In the wake of Toyota' s safety issues and major recalls, Congress held hearings in May 2010 and introduced new automobile safety legislation. These new rules would set vehicle safety standards and impose heavy penalties for violations. The standards, if put into law, would allow for criminal prosecutions against automakers, permit a twentyfold increase in maximum fines, require electronics to be invulnerable to interference that could cause malfunctions, and require a system that allows the brake pedal to override the throttle.

Databeans projects that automotive safety system semiconductors will reach $5 billion in revenue in 2010 and grow at an average rate of 9 percent annually over the forecasted period, reaching $7.7 billion in revenue by 2015. Meanwhile total unit shipments will reach 11.4 billion in 2010, growing 7 percent annually over the next five years to 15.8 billion in 2015.

Global Information, Inc.已開始銷售美國市場調查公司Databeans, Inc.所發行的報告書「2010 Semiconductors in Automotive Safety Systems (車用安全系統的半導體:2010年)」

依據該報告,消費者、法規當局對汽車的安全裝置要求逐漸高漲,安全系統可認為是今後在汽車半導體中急速成長的領域。

預測2010年汽車的安全系統半導體將達到50億美元的收益。且該領域預計以年平均9%的比例擴大,2015年之前達到77億美元。本報告認為, 2010年的出貨總量為114億輛,之後的5年以年平均7%擴大,2015年時達到158億輛。

安全系統被分類成被動安全與主動安全。主動系統的特徵有懸架和操縱控制、照明、胎壓監測、電子穩定控制、防鎖死剎車系統等防止事故裝置。被動系統有發生事故時,保護乘坐人員的座椅安全帶與充氣安全袋、衝擊吸收轉向柱、衝擊緩衝部、頭靠等。

隨著豐田汽車安全性問題的大規模回收而舉行2010年5月的公聽會,暗示有關新的汽車安全性法制化。該新法案設置更嚴格的汽車安全基準,違反時科以嚴重的刑罰。如果法律施行,依據安全基準,能對汽車製造廠進行刑事訴訟。此外,要求電子零件不影響會引起故障的干涉情況。再則,適合汽車安全系統的狀況下,要求要有煞車踏板及使油門無效的技術。
