Europe, with its over 520 million inhabitants, accounts for roughly one quarter of the world furniture market, with a total furniture consumption at producer prices in the range of Eur 85 billion. Per capita furniture consumption levels are on average the highest in the world (together with North America) and over five times higher than those registered by the middle and low income countries. The area confirms its importance on a global level also from the furniture production side. The whole area employees almost 1 million workers in over 100 thousand manufacturing firms recognized worldwide for their quality and design.
