Production of lighting fixtures in Asia Pacific is estimated by CSIL equal to USD 11.7 billion for the year 2014, showing a slight decrease (-0.5% in US$ currency) in comparison with the previous year. Average yearly growth during the last five years has been approximately by 4%.
The Region is overall a net importer of lighting fixtures (to be stressed that China and India are excluded from this study). Trade deficit has progressively increased during the last five years, from USD 908 million in the year 2009 and USD 1,776 million.
Export of lighting fixtures amounts to USD 2.5 billion, that is around 21.6% of the production of lighting fixtures for the considered countries. Import of lighting fixtures registered a value of USD 4.3 billion. Trade deficit comes mainly from imports from China.
Top 100 listed players in the considered Region have an aggregated turnover of over USD 8.3 billion. Around half of the top 50 players are Japanese. 18 out of the top 100 players are Korean. Around 15 players are local branches of international holdings.
In a five year span, exports of lighting fixtures for South Korea increased over ten times and its weight on the total export of the Region increased from 13% to 45%. Among the best performers there are Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam.
The largest importer of lighting fixtures is Japan with around 26% of total (US$ 1,125 million), followed by Australia, South Korea and Vietnam. About Conventional lamps we can notice that overall the trade is flat during the five years period (an average +1% of import and -1% export per year) and dramatically going down during 2014 (-9% or -10%).
