With its 410 million inhabitants, Western Europe accounts for one quarter of the global world furniture market with a total value of furniture consumption at producer prices in the range of Eur 73 billion. Per capita furniture consumption levels are on average the highest in the world (together with North America) and over four times higher than those registered by middle and low income countries. As far as furniture production is concerned Western Europe accounts for 20% of world furniture production, coming after Asia Pacific and before North America . The role of Western Europe in the global context increases further if we look at its role in the international trade of furniture. The area is responsible for over 40% of world furniture imports and around 30% of world furniture exports.
