Abstract

Summary: a brief statement of the content of the report

European Union Central Eastern countries area (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia) provides about EUR 16 billion of furniture production, accounting for 6.2% of the total world furniture output.

This is the result of a fast growing decade, when the total furniture manufactured in this area has more than doubled. The process of joining the European Union has played an important role in the integration and development process, lowering trade barriers and strengthening investor' s confidence.

Poland accounts for a half of the European Union Central Eastern countries area furniture total output, it is one of the best performing countries thanks to foreign investors and the leading local furniture factories that have been modernised and converted to the highest European standards.

Czech Republic boasts strong export potential, as it is among the world' s top 15 furniture exporters. Romania comes third for its furniture production, and, among the new members, it is the country on the fastest growth pattern as far as furniture manufacturing is concerned.

Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia are also benefiting from EU integration. Another lively area is that of the Baltic countries.
