Abstract

The excitement around IMS is based on the premise that an intelligent, converged network will open up market opportunities for many new services and applications. Home networking plays a fundamental role in these emerging markets. This report assesses revenue opportunities for service providers to participate in the top ten home networking applications.

Converging functionality is adding complexity to the home networking market. DVRs, media center PCs, and even gaming consoles are becoming media servers. Media adapters, home security, and home automation systems support specialized applications. This report sorts through the maze of technologies and quantifies consumer interests in major home networking applications. Based on these findings, In-Stat forecasts revenue from home networking related services will generate up to US$3.5 billion annually for operators by 2011.
