Abstract

Description:

China' s inulin industry has seen a fast growth after it achieved commercialization in large-scale in 2001. However, during 2008 to 2010, Chinese inulin industry has witnessed a slightly decrease due to the impact of 2008 global financial crisis and the decreased output of inulin. Some producers have been washed out due to profit deficit, blaming the rise in the price of raw material. While some have expanded production capacity of inulin. In this report, you can find out the latest production situation in China.

With 13 active producers nationwide, China' s total output of inulin reaches 2,997 tonnes in 2010. Among them, Qinghai Weda Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Shanxi Probiotics Yuan Biological Technology Co., Ltd., Zhangye Yunpeng Biotechnology Co., Ltd. are big producers. Meanwhile, dairy products, health products and pharmaceuticals are the top three consumption fields in China.

Additionally, another focus in this report is the latest trade situation, raw material supply, key influencing factors and future forecast of inulin industry in China. The report combines with CCM' s expertise on market research to illustrate the latest situation of inulin industry.

Key sections of this report:

  • Introduction to capacity and output
  • Production situation in China
  • Production cost
  • Import and export situation in China
  • Detailed description on consumption patterns and various application fields
  • Forecast on supply and demand of in China by three different scenarios

Executive summary:

To produce inulin, there are two major raw materials in the world, namely Helianthus tuberosus and Cichorium intybus. Since the former is largely planted in China, most domestic producers use it as raw material.

Barrier separation extraction method is popular in China, as the product made through it has better quality and higher purity than using the other production method - hot water extraction method. Moreover, hot water extraction method consumes much energy and water, which costs more than barrier extraction method.

China' s inulin industry has seen fast growth in recent years. By May 2011, there have been xx active inulin producers in China, with total capacity of xx/a. Although inulin output has recorded a xx% rise in 2010 over 2006 thanks to the increasing demand from end use segments, the output has been slightly decreasing during 2008 to 2010 caused by shrunken profit margin of inulin in China, which drove some producers to stop production during this period.

Meanwhile, China' s inulin consumption is still limited now, which is attributed to its high price and insufficient promotion. In 2010, the total consumption volume of inulin in China is xx tonnes. Dairy products and health products are the major end users. Among dairy products, dairy formula for adults & children and cheese are the top three consumption fields of inulin. Moreover, inulin can be also used in pharmaceuticals and other industries such as bakery and beverage.

China' s export volume of inulin has been decreasing from 2008 to 2010 due to the impact of global financial crisis. The volume was xx tonnes in 2008, while it decreases to xx tonnes in 2010. The 2010 amount accounts for xx% of China' s total inulin output.
