Vietnam is a developing country with a population of over 91 million in 2015. Approximately two-third of this population resides in rural areas of the country. With a recovering economy and some relaxation in regulatory norms, Vietnam has been attracting considerable foreign investments, particularly in the manufacturing and realty sectors.
It is a regional manufacturing hub for the bathroom industries, especially sanitary ware, with exports to other countries in the South East Asia and also elsewhere globally. The manufacture of sanitary ware is considered a traditional cottage industry in the country and is protected from imports with very high custom duties. This has resulted in the sanitary ware market being more consolidated than the faucet market which is overrun by Chinese imports. The market for hydrotherapy products and shower walls is localised and limited owing to low awareness levels and cost considerations. It is expected that in future, the market would grow further, in line with economic growth and increasing penetration of bathroom products across the country.
