Chinese economy continued to grow slowly in 2014 due to the government's economic control measures, slowdown of industries and construction, and insufficient domestic demand. The purchasing power of Chinese people has largely been improving for the last ten years. The annual disposable income of urban residents reached RMB 28,844 in 2014, up by 9% compared to 2013, while the annual income of the rural population reached RMB 10,489 in 2014, up by 11.2%, reflecting both the rising labour costs for both production and logistics, as well as the improving ability to purchase medium to high end bathroom products.

Manufacturers tend to sell bathroom products directly to developers and contractors with the experiences and resources from their key distributors in order to be close to the customers and provide better services. The successful foreign companies tend to localise their presence in China and have also started to be active in direct sales in the contract market. This has largely increased the current competition in the distribution of bathroom products. Internet stores become one of the main retail channels for manufacturers to increase the publicity of their brand image quickly and achieve high volume of sales with increasing penetration of fast speed broadband and the improvement of logistic and installation services.

The market outlook for bathroom products remains positive, influenced mainly by growing private consumption, upgrading of bathrooms, product innovation, and new construction. The acceleration of urbanisation, improved infrastructure and growing rural market will further stimulate the demand for bathroom products across wider areas.
