Chinese economy has entered a "new normal" phase of relatively slower growth, following three decades of double-digit economic expansion, mainly because of slower construction growth and a challenging environment in the manufacturing sector, however, the speed of economic restructuring and upgrading increased. This reflected the transit of the Chinese bathroom market from a dramatic growth of basic functional products in the past to a rational demand for safe, environmental and quality products with growing pursuits for a quality lifestyle. The popularity of full bathroom installations helped the sales of branded products to grow quickly. The Chinese bathroom market also expanded from the mature tier 1 cities to tier 2 to 4 cities, and even rural areas, with growing sanitation levels and improved incomes.

Dealership still remained the main distribution model for bathroom product manufacturers, however, the distribution tended to be flat with fewer intermediates involved in order to reduce the costs of selling and bring better services to the customers. Retail sales grew more quickly than project sales due to the slowdown of new housing construction. Manufacturers prefer low costly retail channels and gradually moved away from DIY stores to building material malls and markets. The "offline experience and online purchasing" become popular for the majority of Chinese consumers with the online stores boom, and improved logistic and installation services. New platforms such as crowdfunding emerged, integrating resources of manufacturing, distribution, installation and finances, which helped the manufacturers to achieve competitiveness in the distribution of bathroom products in both retail and project markets.

The market outlook for bathroom products remains positive, influenced mainly by the "new normal" economic growth, recovery of housing construction, improved income, increasing housing RMI demands, growing non-housing investment, and bathroom product innovation. The acceleration of urbanisation, improved infrastructure and growing rural market will further stimulate the demand for bathroom products across wider areas.
