Abstract

Research Background

Since 1990s, China has left the farm produce shortage time and experienced regional and seasonal surplus in good year.

Strategic structural adjustment for agricultural and rural economy were carried out, the “two-element” structure of food crop and commercial crop transferred to “three-element” structure including food crop, commercial crop and forage plants.

China strived to develop livestock industry with dairy cow industry as one of the most important sectors. At the same time, China's economic system shifted to market economy from traditional planned economy. Under the support of EU aiding China projects, China's dairy cow industry has got great achievement over the past twenty years. The former single state-run dairy farms were generally replaced by the individual, state-owned, collective, foreign investment and shareholding operations. During the initial period, retail farms were the main part of the whole dairy cow industry. Huge consumption demand for dairy products, fast growing production capacity and strongly supports from some local governments stimulated the rapid development of dairy cow industry. Today dairy farmers in China are up to 2 million. Over the past five years, China dairy cow industry has appeared low-level surplus and obvious losses, the inherent disadvantages of individual farms have impacted on the development of dairy cow breeding industry greatly. Standard, scale and intensive farming models have been paid great attention. Melamine event speeds up the change of China dairy cow breeding industry from individual farms to scale farms.

So far, there are no detailed data and analysis reports on dairy cow farm in domestic market, and this report aims at to fill the gap of this sector. The report fully and completely states the current status of dairy cow breeding industry in China and 15 main-producing provinces, including the production of raw milks, dairy cow breeding industry policies, technologies and equipments of dairy farm, benefits, breeding models, development plan and supportive policies, production and management investigation of typical dairy cow farms, assessments on the current situation of China dairy cow farms and opinions on future trends.

The report is the fruit of BOABC dairy research team's wisdom. The senior analysts of the team are members of think banks in related government departments and associations, maintaining a good relationship with government departments associations, key national dairy enterprises, related industries and enterprises. These resource advantages provide valuable professional supports for and ensure the accuracy, authority, scientificity and perspectiveness of the referenced dates. The research team makes field investigations and researches on livestock departments, dairy cow farms and dairy product processing enterprises of different provinces. BOABC believes that the report is an important reference material for the strategic decision of domestic and oversea dairy companies, dairy ingredients suppliers, related equipments suppliers, investment and financial organizations and other related institutions.
