BMI View:SSA's project pipeline value continues to grow and has now reached USD680bn, according to BMI's Infrastructure Key Projects Database. Energy and utility infrastructure projects are in focus as governments and international institutions focus on power generations to unlock the region's economic growth potential. In the transport sector, developing logistics corridors through investment in rail and ports will see significant contract opportunities proliferate. Poor project planning and execution remains the region's largest risk, exacerbated by macroeconomic volatility.
Rapid population growth alongside rising incomes in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) markets is sustaining heightened demand for improved logistics infrastructure and the development of real estate, providing substantial opportunities for construction firms and investors in projects across the region. Macroeconomic and political instability and regulatory uncertainty remain the main drags on the region's overall attractiveness and investors' willingness to commit large outlays of capital into its construction markets.
