Abstract

INTRODUCTION

This business opportunity report analyzes the market and developments in sludge treatment and odor control on a global market scale. Sludge treatment describes the processes used to manage and dispose of the products or sludges produced during sewage treatment. Odor control is an important factor in treating and disposing of in a safe and effective manner the biosolids accumulated in any wastewater treatment process. There is also the possibility that the sludge is contaminated with some toxic organic and inorganic compounds. A number of management approaches might be used in the disposal of sludge and care must be taken to select the most suitable action alternatives.

STUDY GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

This BCC Research report provides an in-depth analysis of the global sludge treatment and odor control equipment market. These methods include sludge digestion, sludge dewatering, sludge drying, and physical, chemical, and biological odor control technologies. The advanced technologies are so called because of their improved effectiveness in treating sludge and wastewater. It is desired to create a document that will assist engineers, utilities, and corporate business planners in assessing the global components and demands for advanced sludge treatment and odor control.

REASONS FOR DOING THE STUDY

Einstein was correct. Matter can be neither created nor destroyed. Wastewater and sludge are continually being produced, and the pollutants never completely disappear. With each passing year, the quality of the Earth﹊s water measurably deteriorates and the amount of sludge or dewatered wastewater increases. For sludge, it is hoped that the level of harmful and toxic residues can be reduced and there is some hope that some of the sludge can be reclaimed and reused in a safe and economically efficient manner. Sludge might include heavy metals, organic industrial chemicals, agricultural chemicals, oils/greases, and miscellaneous hazardous pollutants, such as medical wastes and, perhaps most obnoxious of all, a disagreeable odor.

This report is intended for those who desire an analysis of the global sludge treatment and odor control equipment markets. This technical marketing report seeks to quantify the various markets, forecasts the market trends, traces significant developments, and profiles companies that are active in the market sectors. This business opportunity report contains information and conclusions that are unique, insightful, and have a forward-thinking knowledge of the subject. This should be of advantage to manufacturers, suppliers, and to local, state and government entities.

SCOPE OF REPORT

The following report examines the market for three categories of sludge treatment equipment and three categories of odor control equipment. These are:

  • Sludge digestion
  • Sludge dewatering
  • Sludge drying
  • Physical odor control equipment
  • Chemical odor control equipment
  • Biological odor control equipment

The study also provides information on:

  • The emerging and alternative technologies in these markets Industry structure
  • Five-year projections of market activity
  • Pricing trends and technological trends
  • Research and development activity
  • Governmental legislation
  • Competitive structure and company profiles
  • Includes developed and developing countries

INTENDED AUDIENCE

This comprehensive report on sludge treatment and odor control equipment aims to provide detailed information to those interested in investment, expansion, or acquisition into the market. Venture capitalists, executive planners, senior marketing personnel, research analysts, and suppliers to the sludge treatment and odor control industry and end users who want to discover and exploit current or projected market niches should find this report useful. Readers who intend to gain an understanding of the sludge treatment and odor control market, regulations affecting these markets, market trends and competitive structure within these markets will find this study worthwhile.

METHODOLOGY AND INFORMATION SOURCES

Research for this technical/marketing report began with a re-analysis of the available technical and business literature as well as an evaluation of the records of the sludge treatment industry. Conversations with industry experts, company representatives, federal government researchers, and university scientists provided the backbone for an advanced sludge treatment and odor control analysis.

Both primary and secondary research methods were used in this research study. Internet, literature, and patent searches were undertaken, and key industry participants were queried. Growth rates for each market were calculated based on the revenues obtained from manufacturers﹊ sales of existing process equipment during the forecast period. Values and forecasts are given in current U.S. dollars. Construction, engineering, and design costs were excluded when calculating system sales.

The analyst for BCC research surveyed approximately 35 companies to obtain data for this study. Included were manufacturers of various sludge treatment and odor control equipment. Data were compiled from current trade and financial organizations as well as from governmental sources.
