59 Slides

"Network orchestrators will augment network management systems to add the dynamic, multi-vendor lifecycle management required by virtual and hybrid networks."

Traditional network and element management systems (NMS/EMS) cannot provide lifecycle management of virtual functions and must be augmented or replaced by more-modular, more-open multi-vendor and modern software systems that are suitable for hybrid physical-virtual networks, able to abstract the network and support automated operations.

This report:

  • assesses the roles and responsibilities of NMS/EMS compared with those of network orchestrators
  • analyses the vendor landscape for network orchestrators, and how it compares and contrasts with the NMS/EMS vendor landscape
  • profiles the different types of vendors that are exploiting the network orchestration and management opportunity, and their strategies
  • highlights the critical success factors for suppliers
  • predicts what is likely to happen in the next several years with network orchestration and management, and as network virtualisation deployments continue.

Figure: NMS/EMS and network orchestration must work together to support hybrid network management
