目錄

This Country Report and accompanying data annex provide a comprehensive overview of Bangladesh's telecoms market, including KPIs and data on subscribers, penetration, revenue and ARPU. The Report analyses the strategies of major players in the country's fixed and mobile telecoms markets, and includes market share data and operators' infrastructure status. It also includes an analysis of the market outlook, focusing on the following trends and emerging opportunities.

  • WiMAX is driving strong growth in fixed broadband connections, although population penetration continues to be low.
  • State-owned Teletalk Bangladesh launched 3G services in October 2012, and an auction for 3G licences for the other operators is scheduled for June 2013, although this may be delayed yet again.
  • Industry requests to the government to relax taxation on the telecoms sector have not yielded significant results so far, although the regulator is implementing policies to help consumers.
  • We expect slow growth in the mobile subscriber base after the BTRC imposed strict regulations on selling SIMs to unregistered users.
  • The BTRC is issuing 844 VoIP licences in order to reduce illegal call termination and recoup lost revenue.
