Graphene is a single, tightly packed layer of carbon atoms in the form of a hexagonal honeycomb lattice. It exhibits remarkable electrical conductivity and heat resistance. It is widely used in various applications, such as RFID, composites, sensors, research & development, energy storage, functional ink, and polymer additives. However, high price of equipment and technical limitation for commercial production are the major factors restricting the growth of the market. In addition, the health and environmental risks associated during production of graphene is high, as it is highly inflammable. Graphene is used in various applications such as RFID, composites, sensors, research & development, energy storage, functional ink, and polymer additives. The world graphene market is at its nascent stage of commercialization. Therefore, in 2014, more than 75% of the graphene was used for research & development and prototype preparation by research institutes, universities, and R&D units of prominent companies like Nokia, Samsung, Intel, IBM, and others. Energy storage application is expected to be the fastest growing segment, registering a CAGR of 93.2% during the forecast period. Graphene electrodes are widely used in energy storage devices, such as electromagnetic supercapacitors and batteries (Li-ion, Li-air, lead acid, and fuel cells), owing to high energy density and quick charging property.
