Mobile edge computing brings processing, storage and management capabilities closer to the end-user in the base station; macro or small cell or in a proximate cell aggregation node. The end-user benefits come from direct improvement to network performance in terms of latency and throughput. Operators also enjoy the cost-effective capacity enhancement within the network and the new monetization opportunities created from both hosting apps and content from partners in the radio access, and from offering advanced services to subscribers.
