The global healthcare market is in a state of crisis, and IoT services and technology can help to reduce the rising costs while also increasing the amount of care patients can receive. Nurses and other caregivers spend much of their day transcribing data from patient monitoring devices into patients' electronic medical records. As a result, nurses are more focused on administrative tasks than on delivering true and effective patient care. By connecting these devices through existing wireless networks within hospitals to the patient's electronic medical records, this data is able to be aggregated and analyzed. Transcription errors are virtually eliminated. Medical providers are able to receive an instantaneous holistic view of a patient and are better enabled to create effective treatment plans. Due to cost restrictions, many hospitals and caregivers are not utilizing these advanced patient monitoring devices, but within the next 5 years they will as the value propositions become clear and healthcare systems continue to shift from a service-based payment model to a value-based payment model.
