This add-on focus day addresses the urgent need for planning authorities and other stakeholders to retrofit Asia’s cities with eco-friendly building materials and new methods. As buildings and infrastructure in the region’s cities age, what can national and state governments, urban planners and business owners do to mitigate the situation and ensure their cities are liveable and meet the green agenda?
This morning session will be led by Jeff Robinson, Principal Engineer and Sustainabile Buildings Leader, Aurecon Group with examples of city refurbishment and upgrading projects in Australia and across Asia.
About Your Green Retrofits Presenter:
Jeff Robinson
Principal Engineer and Sustainable Buildings Leader,
Aurecon Group, Australia
Jeff is Aurecon’s principal engineer and sustainable design leader for Asia Pacific. He has over 24 years experience, working in London, Ireland and in Melbourne for the last 14 years. Jeff has been involved in the design of a wide variety of building types, including offices, residential, industrial, academic and institutional buildings and has worked on projects in Australia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and America.
A passionate advocate for the design and renovation of environmentally sustainable buildings, Jeff has been involved in many of the cutting-edge ESD buildings in Melbourne and overseas. He advises clients on the sustainable redevelopment of their Commercial, Public and Educational buildings and has worked on many sustainable refurbishment projects in Australia.
Jeff has been involved in the planning and design of a number of urban regeneration sustainable precinct projects, which he sees as being the way forward for sustainable development.
Landscaping Strategies for a Sustainable and Liveable Urban Metropolis

Urban landscaping contributes to making a city environmentally friendly and liveable. Governments, property developers and owners should aim to bring about noticeable improvements in urban greenery, to enhance existing greened areas, and to enhance opportunities of quality greening during the planning and development of public works projects with a view to achieving the sustainable development of greener environment.
This afternoon session will be led by Robbert Van Nouhuys, Director, ACLA, Hong Kong who has been involved in the Greening Master Plan of Hong Kong.
What You Will Learn:
- Strategies to improve the coordination and effectiveness of greening efforts and to make greening an integral part of the city’s future rejuvenation master plan
- Getting public and private sector buy-in through consultations, feedback and participation
- Greening works for government buildings: roof and vertical greening, and retrofitting roofs of existing government buildings

Robbert Van Nouhuys is an urban designer and landscape architect with more than 25 years experience in planning and design of international award-winning recreation, tourism and residential/commercial development projects in Asia and the Middle East. Over the years, Robbert has developed the specialist skills and expertise of incorporating a strong sustainability approach and concept in all of his projects. His often innovative ideas and attention to detail has lead to successful completion of a wide variety of projects, ranging from new capital cities, residential and resort developments, to largescale tourism and recreation projects. Robbert was involved in the Greening Master Plan for Hong Kong.
