Last year saw global mobile broadcasting move from trial stages to actual service launches, and predictions are that by the end of the decade, broadcast mobile TV services will be offered in at least 21 countries worldwide with more than 200 million subscribers. However, as operators eagerly explore the possibilities of adding a new "sticky" service to their portfolio, fragmented technology standards add an element of difficulty to their strategic planning. The race is on between T/SDMB, DVB-H, MediaFlo, and a host of new Chinese standards to become the dominant technology for mobile TV. How do these technologies compare? Will one technology emerge as dominant, or will multiple standards co-exist? This panel brings together industry experts from the manufacturing and operating sides to discuss the pros and cons of the technologies, including channel capacity, systems flexibility, video quality, infrastructure and bandwidth issues, cost-effectiveness, and scalability.
