Early results from recently launched WiMAX trials are demonstrating that the technology is viable and sufficiently flexible to accommodate diverse carriers and markets. But questions still remain, notably: How does WiMAX work in existing HSDPA environments, and what technical issues must network operators in emerging markets consider before launching IP services? In this session, the speaker will examine how WiMAX operators can overlay 2G networks with WiMAX, discuss how 3G operators can use WiMAX to complement their backhaul operations, and will make recommendations about WiMAX for greenfield installations. The speaker will examine and differentiate the WiMAX 1A, 1D, and 1E standards and look at technical developments in the handset and chip manufacturing sectors that will affect WiMAX operators.
