Smart cellular device shipment volume and value are on an upswing in the Taiwanese mobile communications industry in 2008, while basic/feature phones are experiencing declines in volume and value; Apple' s importance for the Taiwanese industry is increasing.
In 2008 Nokia continues to lead the global mobile phone market, with several smart cellular device companies gaining stature; the focus of the market is shifting from shipment volume to shipment value; Chinese makers, meanwhile, are relying on exports to relieve some of the competitive pressure they are facing in the domestic Chinese market Mobile OS competition is heating up with the growth of mobile Internet access; major players in the mobile communications industry are investing in different OS camps.
