Abstract
In 2006, China' s digital cable STB industry posted total shipment volume of approximately eight million units, representing an increase of 140% compared to 2005. Three vendors - DVN, Jiuzhou and Skyworth - accounted for around 55% of the industry' s total shipments in 2006; however, in early 2007, DVN announced that it was withdrawing from the digital cable STB market. Recently, the MPEG-2 Alliance has begun to demand payment of royalties by Chinese STB makers, which may have a negative impact on the industry' s development. As of 2007, the leading Chinese digital cable STB vendors included Coship, Jiuzhou, Skyworth, Haier, and Changhong. This report will examine the development and current status of these leading vendors.
