Abstract
This IDC study examines the market for 3G mobile broadband services that
connect laptop computers to the cellular network. It discusses recent
developments in the U.S. market, profiles services offered by U.S. mobile
operators, and presents a revenue and subscriber forecast for 2008-2012, and
segments this market by monthly versus session-based subscribers and by access
method.
"3G mobile broadband is on a path for exciting growth over the next few years
as operators promote the benefits of cellular data access and laptop OEMs make
embedded cellular connectivity accessible to customers," says Carrie
MacGillivray, senior research analyst, Mobile Enterprise Network Services.
"Stable plan pricing, increasing awareness of mobile broadband, and growth of
the ecosystem of suppliers set the stage for growth both from a subscriber and
revenue perspective."
