Abstract
This document provides insight into the state of the broadband market in
Europe. It analyzes and recommends strategies for the different types of
operator in the Western European broadband market. In addition, it quantifies
the competitive situation for Western Europe as a whole and for each country
separately. It includes broadband connection figures by country at the end of
2007. In addition, market shares are calculated on three levels: infrastructure
(by technology), network (by network provider), and retail (by ISP). ISP
connection numbers and shares for 2006 and 2007 are provided by country.
"As market growth slows, churn has become a major issue for many broadband
operators," said Jan Hein Bakkers, research manager, European Broadband Markets
and Technologies. "They will need a holistic customer approach, with a focus on
customer retention and maximizing value per customer, rather than per product
line."
