Abstract
This IDC study presents an overview of our forecast for the technical server market for the 2008-2012 period. The technical server market grew by more than 100% from 2003 to 2007 and a strong 15% from 2006 to 2007. In 2007, the market grew from $1.51 billion to reach $11.56 billion. IDC expects the total HPC market to expand by 9.2% annually in revenue to reach $18 billion by 2012.
According to Jie Wu, senior analyst, Technical Computing Systems, "We believe that the continued strength of the HPC market is driven by a combination of new users entering the market, current industrial users making greater use of computational methods, and continued geopolitical tensions. We expect to see a return to more sustainable growth rates around 10%, but we are carefully watching the global economy to see how it impacts purchases of technical servers."
