Abstract
This study is the result of IDC' s 2007 U.S. Consumer PC Survey. This national survey of 983 U.S. households was conducted online in late 2007 to assess current household usage and future demand for personal computers. This study covers the current usage results, while the accompanying document, IDC' s 2007 U.S. Consumer PC Survey, Part 2 (forthcoming), addresses the future outlook.
"While there is a rapid shift from desktops toward portables, we still find that a majority of PC owners currently have desktops, and they bought them in a retail store or from the manufacturers' Web site. Thin-and-light notebooks continue to rank highly among consumers, while the minitower desktop appears to be falling in demand. The ease of home networks continues to drive notebook purchases and multi-PC homes," says Doug Bell, analyst with IDC' s U.S. Quarterly PC Tracker.
