Abstract
This IDC study analyzes the U.S. Carrier Ethernet services market. Along with discussing key trends, it forecasts Ethernet services growth from 2008 to 2012. The data is segmented by service type, geography, and service bandwidth.
The U.S. market for Carrier Ethernet services is growing dramatically. IDC predicts the market will increase from $1.3 billion in 2007 at CAGR of 36% to $6 billion in 2012. Growth is driven by customers' increasing willingness to use Ethernet services for new requirements and as a replacement for legacy data services. Carriers are fueling growth as incumbents and competitors round out their product portfolios and aggressively position their Ethernet service offerings to customers.
"Ethernet services will continue their considerable growth driven by growing customer acceptance and demand as well as an improved ability on the part of incumbents and competitors to meet this demand with a fuller set of product offerings." - Boyd Chastant, director, Business Network Services
