Abstract
This IDC study examines the current and future use of major application and
management disciplines and their supporting technologies in Australia through
to 2009, which is drawn from the 2007 Forecast for Management (FFM) Survey.
IDC' s FFM Survey, conducted annually in Australia since the mid-1980s, asks
CIOs a wide range of questions regarding their use of, expenditure on,
resourcing for, and challenges with IT.
"Many IT industry participants first saw service oriented architecture (SOA) as
another standards and application development paradigm wave that would just
fade away. However, SOA is here to stay and is in the 2008 budget for more than
50% of responding CIOs. Virtualisation is another of the top technologies in
which CIOs will be investing in 2008. This is no surprise as CIOs are now on
the journey to enable their environments to be as flexible and "future proofed'
as possible. SOA and virtualisation technologies are enablers that can support
these objectives," believes Melissa Martin, senior market analyst, at IDC
Australia.
