Abstract
This study presents and analyzes the results of key SaaS issues from IDC' s 2007 European Vertical Markets Software Survey. More specifically, the study examines the SaaS attitudes and plans for ERP and CRM applications. The European Vertical Markets Survey was carried out in August to November 2007, among 2,077 companies with more than 20 employees in the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Finally, the study provides essential guidance on key strategic priorities for SaaS providers.
A large proportion of European companies are planning to invest in SaaS for replacing or supplementing the functionality of existing ERP and CRM solutions within the next 24 months, with 37% and 35%, respectively. IDC found significant expressions of planned SaaS spending across company size bands with midmarket organizations expressing the greatest interest. "These results demonstrate surprisingly aggressive plans to move ahead with SaaS in Europe, especially if one considers the relatively limited availability of SaaS ERP packages. We believe that the results, at least partially, reflect intentions rather than concrete plans with allocated budgets. Also, IDC believes that the indications of SaaS investment mostly reflect plans to supplement rather than completely replace existing ERP applications," said Bo Lykkegaard, program manager, European Enterprise Applications at IDC.
