Abstract
This IDC study reports the findings and analysis resulting from a survey of 108 healthcare providers gathered in July and August 2007. In particular, this study speaks to IAM requirements important to healthcare executives in Canada. Healthcare is one of the most information-intensive, security-sensitive, highly regulated, and monitored industries. Protection of information about a patient' s identity and medical history is a critical element of the trust embodied in the doctor/patient relationship. To ensure that its citizens' information has maximum protection, Canada has developed a legislative framework that lays the foundation for how personal information is to be handled. But healthcare executives need technology to help them in their data protection efforts.
Jan Duffy, senior healthcare analyst, IDC Canada says, "To meet regulatory requirements, healthcare providers will need to employ a variety of IAM elements, including password management, digital signatures, secure single sign-on, audit and reporting, and two- and multifactor authentication mechanisms. To further expand the market, vendors should provide products and solutions that appeal singularly to healthcare providers."
