Abstract
This IDC study profiles the primary WiFi location-based services (LBS) vendors currently in the market and highlights the competitive dynamics between them. Though new vendors regularly join the fray in this emerging market, the vendors profiled here have established, and will continue to establish, the dynamics that will shape the WiFi LBS market. Several companies have developed location engines and applications to capitalize on the growing number of WLAN deployments and demand for applications to track valuable assets.
"There exists a tremendous amount of diversity among the WiFi LBS applications and appliances offered on the market today. This includes fundamental differences in technology, features, and functionality. Moreover, the current crop of vendors differ widely on target markets and go-to-market strategy. The strength of these strategies will help develop the WiFi LBS market into nearly a $1 billion worldwide opportunity by 2011 and will be a key driver of incremental WLAN deployments." - Dan Corsetti, senior analyst, IDC
