Abstract
The installed base for the Western European MFP is forecast to increase as the
overall shipment forecast continues to gain strength. Growth will be seen in
inkjet, monochrome, and color products. The business model for the printing
industry is for vendors and channel partners to make the most of their profits
and revenues from consumables and other after-sales products.
"The number of pages produced in the home and office alike is increasing
despite green issues coming to light in today' s society," said Phil Sargeant,
research manager, European Printers and Multifunctional Peripherals, IDC.
"Users and vendors can help to reduce the amount of pages being printed by
encouraging the use of duplex printing, because this still means that the same
amount of toner is used. One difficulty is that duplex units are more
expensive, which may hinder competition."
