Abstract
This Health Industry Insights report discusses the attitudes of American
consumers toward the purchase and use of digital technology for remote,
home-based health monitoring. It also assesses whether this is a viable
strategy for reducing the cost of care by shifting care delivery away from the
traditional reliance on office or hospital visits as the de facto standard for
treating many patients with chronic diseases.
"Based on recent industry announcements and general trends in the healthcare
marketplace, our view is that the next generation of home health monitoring
devices could play a key role in the transformation of care delivery for many
patients with chronic or degenerative conditions. But the realization of this
potential will require that widespread adoption must make economic sense for
all the key stakeholders: providers, payers, employers, vendors, and the
government. Without such a coalescence of interests, growth may remain steady,
but well below its potential." - Marc Holland, program director, Healthcare
