Abstract
Recordati's R&D is focused on cardiovascular diseases, anti-infectives, respiratory, anti-inflammatory, dermatology/gynaecology/urology. This report provides a full review of the company's activities together with sales forecasts for key products to 2010.
Recordati was established in 1926 in Milan, Italy and is now listed on the Italian Stock Exchange. The company employs more than 1,900 people and its products are sold in about 100 countries.
Recordati markets products in the following fields: Cardiovascular, Central Nervous System, Gastroenterology/Urology; Respiratory and Anti-infectives. The company is active in the following areas of research: Cardiovascular; Central Nervous System, Gastroenterology/Urology and Anti-infectives. However, future research efforts will focus on fixed combinations in the treatment of hypertension and the development of therapies for micturition disorders.
Current Growth Drivers
- Zanidip (lercanidipine), an in-house developed calcium channel blocker, is Recordati's top selling product by a considerable margin, accounting for around 15 per cent of the company's total revenue. The product continues to sell well, and Recordati is investing in new combinations and formulations which should ensure future success and growth.
- Peptazol (pantoprazole), a proton pump inhibitor for the treatment of ulcers and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, has demonstrated good year-on-year growth since its 2002 launch in the Italian market.
Key Late-Phase Products Reaching the Market Place
- Zanipress (lercanidipine+enalapril) is a new fixed combination treatment for hypertension developed by Recordati. It is currently awaiting approval in Germany, which will act as the reference member state for approval in the rest of Europe. Its launch will support the sales of Zanidip and aid Recordati in making further gains in the European hypertension market.
- Fentanyl is a centrally acting, potent analgesic which is being developed as a transdermal patch for the treatment of moderate to severe pin. Recordati has acquired rights to market this product in all the major European markets and the company hopes its launch will expand its analgesic product portfolio.
