The US telecom sector has been a hotbed of takeover activity: First came the purchase of AT&T Wireless by Cingular, then Sprints proposed acquisition of Nextel, followed by SBCs agreement to purchase AT&T and, most recently,Verizons planned takeover of MCI. Meanwhile, the Baby Bells (Verizon, SBC, BellSouth & Qwest) have announced their intention to upgrade their networks to offer higher bandwidths (3Mbps ・30Mbps).
