Abstract
Cellular operators, just getting over the nightmare of 3G are now facing another challenge, WiMAX. But unlike 3G, where cellular operators were fully in control of their own destiny, WiMAX presents a different challenge. Driven by some strongly backed and deep-pocked companies, WiMAX will happen with or without cellular operators supporting it. Cellular operators have to decide, are they with WiMAX, against WiMAX, or should they just watch from the sidelines?
This report is aimed at cellular operators having to decide their strategy toward WiMAX, but it should be equally helpful for anyone that wants to learn about WiMAX looking at it from a cellular operator' s perspective. Even for those cellular operators that choose to watch from the sidelines, WiMAX will impact their businesses.
This report includes some background on WiMAX, the market challenges for WiMAX, and the state of the cellular market, which WiMAX will be competing against. There are also sections on medium-range WiMAX, Voice over WiMAX and Mobile Voice over WiMAX, and a section on why cellular operators should care about WiMAX. The report concludes with some strategies for cellular operators toward WiMAX.
